Frequently Asked Questions On Remote STARTER Installation.

Are you ready for another cold winter?

Having a Remote Starter install in your car can provide you with the comfort of getting into a warm car. On a -16 °C chilly winter’s day, warming up your car 5 to 10 minutes before getting inside can make for a more pleasant experience.  You can do this with the push of a button from your smartphone or remote starter key fob.  At Tinting Electronic Automation we are an authorized dealer for the Newest and Latest technology from Autostart and Astrostart products.

Why it is important for you to choose a Quality Remote Car Starter System and not a CHEAP remote starter?

The problem is that most people do not know a high-quality brand from a low-quality brand when it comes to remote car starters. A good rule of thumb is to find a shop in your area, drop in and have a chat with them. It is a fair assumption that they will sell and install brands they trust and are known to be high-quality and have excellent support after they are install in a customer’s car. If you trust the shop, you can trust their choice of products that they carry.

No matter what you do, never buy a remote starter at one shop and have it installed somewhere else. That is the biggest mistake you can make. You always want to have your remote starter installed at the very same place where you bought it. They will be able to support you down the road for you, say you accidently lost your remote starter key fob.  They will be able to program a new one for you instead of purchasing a brand new system all together.

How does a remote starter work?

Remote starts are easy to use: simply press a button on your remote or smartphone from your location indoors and the car turns on. You also have the capability to turn off your car using your remote if your plans have changed. Once initiated, the parking lights will flash to confirm the signal was successful and the vehicle will stay locked until you unlock it. It is important to keep in mind that you will need to actually turn your key in the ignition in order to put your car into gear.

What is the difference between a 1-way and 2-way remote starter?

A 2-way remote starter sends a signal back to the remote after you push the start button, to confirm that the vehicle has in fact started. The remote will typically beep, or flash, or show an icon confirming that the engine is running. This is a great feature to have if you can’t make visual contact with the vehicle after you push the start button, so you know if the engine is running or not.  A 1-way remote does not provide this type of feedback.

What other feature can be added to a Remote Starter?

There are many remote starter models that come with extra features that can further enhance the convenience of a remote starter system. Added features include: keyless entry, security alarm, trunk release, temperature sensors that automatically start the car when the temperature falls to a set level, the ability to start your car from anywhere in the world via your SmartPhone with Autostart branded SmartStart. You can remote start, control, or locate your car just by pushing a button on your smartphone. If you are interested, drop by and let us help you find a solution that fits your needs and your car.

Are remote starters suitable for manual (stick-shift) transmission vehicles?

Yes, although more costly and time consuming to install, it is perfectly safe to install a remote starter in a manual transmission vehicle. There will be inherent safeties built in to the system to ensure the vehicle can only be remote started if it’s in neutral.

How long will it take to install a remote starter on my vehicle?

The process generally takes 3-5 hours depending on the complexity of the vehicle, the convenience feature to be install and the type of remote starter unit that is going in to the car.

I lost my remote.   How do I get a replacement remote?

The best way to do this is to find out the model of remote starter unit that you have. Since many remotes out there will look very similar, so you will need to confirm the BRAND and model number of your remote starter.  The remote starter module is usually located under the driver side dashboard. You will also need your antenna parts number. Your remote starter antenna is usually located on the front windshield towards the top. Often, it will be tucked into a corner or behind the rearview mirror so that it doesn’t block your field of vision. Once you have locate your remote antenna model number, and the remote starter model number we will be able to find you the right remote.  If you are still not sure, bring your car in, we can help you with it.

What is a bypass module?

A bypass module, also known as an immobilizer/data interface, is a piece of hardware that typically works in conjunction with the remote starter to ensure that the remote starter functions properly in a particular vehicle. The module may be more specific to your make and model vehicle, whereas the remote starter hardware may be universal for almost any vehicle. For some vehicles, a bypass module alone will function as both a bypass module and remote starter. Most vehicles manufactured after the 1998 will require a bypass module.

Can a remote starter be un-installed, and used in another vehicle?

Yes, any remote starter system can always be removed from your vehicle. Depending on the type of remote starter, the type of bypass module, and the type of vehicle, it may or may not be suitable to be re-used in another vehicle.

Can I use my existing factory key fob to remote start the vehicle?

For many makes and models the answer is yes. Some vehicles will require a separate remote key fob.

Will the vehicle remain locked while the engine is running?

How much does it cost?

When you do a Google search, you will find out that most online retailer will tell you that it will cost you $80 - $130 for a remote starter and security system. However, there are CRUCIAL flaws with these results.  These prices do NOT include installation.  Also, most remote starters sold online are NOT under warranty.  Before you buy from an online retailer.  There are 3 important questions you need to ask yourself before buying a remote starter security system.

1. Do you want your car remote starter and security alarm system to be properly installed into your vehicle?

2. Do you want your purchase to be protected under warranty from any defects?

3. Does a $99.99 price tag sounds too-good-to-be-true for ensuring your vehicle is fully secure and properly functioning?

If you answered “Yes”, to any of these questions, we recommend you do NOT purchase a remote starter and security system off the internet.  All of the online retailer do NOT included professional installation – meaning that you will have to install it yourself. Furthermore, if you attempt to install the system yourself, you will instantly be voiding the warranty on your product!

Do not make the mistake of buying it online where there are no support for your purchases afterward. Most quality shops will not install a remote starter that was purchased elsewhere for these reasons.  At Tinting Electronic Automation, we have:
